Have a Plan or Plan to Fail
by David West
Most successful music programs are built upon two important factors,
preparation and organization. Many a ministry has failed to bring
honor to the Lord simply because of things not being done "decently
and in order" (I Cor 14:40)
Here are some helpful suggestions:
- Follow a written order of service.
- Schedule special music at least two month ahead.
- Start services and choir rehearsals on time.
- Keep records of congregational singing, special Music, choir specials
- Have a filing system for your music.
- Plan ahead for special meetings such as revivals, mission conferences
- Special services: Fathers Day, Easter, July 4th cantatas etc.
- Meet weekly with the pastor: Learn his heart, let him know of your needs, look ahead - schedule
- Have your pianist prelude 10-15 minutes before service.
- Educate and train others both spiritually and musically
- Prepare a written philosophy of music
