"Exposing Modern Worship: Music isn't the problem"

“Are you concerned about this next generation’s rejection of traditional worship, particularly in the area of music? I believe we have been fighting the wrong battles, and addressing the wrong problems. The worship style of our churches should reflect our doctrine, our philosophy of ministry, and our Christian ethics.

 

God was obviously not pleased with Israel’s worship as recorded in Exodus 32. The “noise of war” however, was not specifically rebuked by Moses. Why not? What did brave Gideon and wise Solomon fail to see in the last part of their lives as they returned to worshipping false gods?  Are we failing to see the same things?”

Acknowledging the significant part that music plays in our sacred worship, why is the Bible so vague in describing the details of what the composition and performance of our music should be?  Does our musical God really care about what kind of music we use? Considering the vast number of times we are commanded to praise the Lord in song, how could something so important be given so little attention? If the song of the redeemed is to be heard throughout heaven for eternity, why is the Word not “crystal clear” as to its use?

Music is not the problem in our churches today. Nor was it the problem in Israel when God rejected their worship. The “new song in our mouths” is merely a small but accurate revelation of what is going on in our hearts. It was not the visual ice protruding above the surface of the North Atlantic that sunk the Titanic. What exists beneath the surface in our Bible-believing churches may very well be causing them to sink.
